Bipasha Basu who is well known will be seen in a new avatar in Rituparno Ghosh's neo-realistic film "Shob Choritroi Kalponik"
Bipasha told IANS that "I don't know why people think it's tough to do realistic roles. Not at all! It's the fantasy that's hard to make real. For my role in Ritu-da's film the cotton saris, long blouses and a bindi took care of the physicality,".
The actress binged big-time while in Kolkata for the shooting, throwing all caution to the winds. "On Rituparno Ghosh's sets they served two kinds of fish every day for lunch. Plus, a lot of mishti doi (sweet curd) and other sweets.
"But I don't feel guilty. I go to the gym every morning before shooting. And the location is seven minutes from my hotel. So I don't need to be caught up in Kolkata's infamous traffic," she said.
The actress is making sure she wears her blouses up to her elbow for her first Bengali film. "I play a woman, who's older, mature, experienced and a wife to boot. Ritu-da has given me these crisp cotton saris. I wear them with long blouses so that my muscles don't show. Can't look muscular when my life is sagging."
Bipasha is full of praise for her director. "Ritu-da is definitely going to present me in a different light. And by that I mean even the physical texture and mood of the shots. Otherwise, there's no big difference between working in Mumbai and Kolkata.
"Yeah, Ritu-da did give me a hard-bound script to begin with. But you know what? That's what I get from all my producers in Mumbai these days, and not just Yash Raj. I got hard-bound scripts for 'Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal' and Abbas-Mustan's 'Race'!"

Deepika was opted out of the movie
Deepika failed to impress the Roshans on the dance floor. So, Deepika was opted out of this movie which will be directed by Anurag Basu
Things seemed starry for the newcomer Deepika Padukone when she was chosen for Hrithik Roshan’s next after a dizzing success of her debut ‘OSO’.
However, the film which is based on Latin dance, requires the leading lady to be skilled in Salsa. Where Hrithik’s dancing skills need no mention, Deepika failed to impress the Roshans on the dance floor.
To cheer up the lady, Rakesh Roshan has promised her that she would soon be signing their next production. How very kind of Mr. Roshan, right!

Shahrukh Khan, Kareena kapoor number 1" in 2007
Shah Rukh Khan is the undisputed king of box office and Kareena Kapoor is the "actress number 1" in 2007
Director Shimit Amin hit the bull's eye with "Chak De! India" and revived the hockey mania. Ranbir Kapoor led the pack of newcomers in 2007.
As 2007 comes to an end, the top new comers, top actors , top actresses, top directors are
The top newcomers of the year:
Ranbir Kapoor: Rock-solid pedigree, endearing screen presence and oodles of self-confidence made the newest Kapoor on the block every girl's favourite "Saawariya". Next year Ranbir will be seen wooing Bipasha, Katrina, Deepika Padukone and Minissha Lamba.
Sonam Kapoor: She's been compared with Waheeda Rehman and Rekha. Sonam is here to stay. Everyone from Ekta Kapoor to Preity Zinta finds her interesting.
Ruslaan Mumtaz: "Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar" was a damp squib, but Ruslaan created a ripple in a quiet way. Watch out for him in his second film "Tere Sang".
Deepika Padukone: Shah Rukh Khan's dreamy girl from "Om Shanti Om" made a dream debut in a double role. Her next film "Made In China" pairs the OSO babe with Akshay Kumar
The top actors:
Shah Rukh Khan: Undisputed king of the box office with two super hits "Chak De! India" and "Om Shanti Om" oozing star-power in every frame.
Akshay Kumar: Take a bow, Akshay. With four hits - "Namastey London", "Heyy Babyy", "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" and at the yearend "Welcome" - the man is the new invincible Midas at the box office.
Aamir Khan: With "Taare Zameen Par" Aamir proves he a man of integrity and an artiste who puts his money where his mouth is.
The top actresses:
Kareena Kapoor: One rousing performance in "Jab We Met", and she's back at the top. But where does Kareena go from here? Yash Raj Films' "Tashan" is her next release and the buzz is she's bagging Karan Johar's next with Shah Rukh.
Vidya Balan: Three solid hits - "Guru", "Heyy Babyy" and "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" have suddenly made Vidya a force to reckon with. In 2008, she'll be competing with Priyanka Chopra, who has an impressive line up of lavish releases, and Aishwarya Rai whose "Jodhaa-Akbar" could be the biggest.
Konkona Sen-Sharma: From Rani's chirpy sibling in "Laaga Chunari Mein Daag" to Kunal Kapoor's besotted Laila in "Aaja Nachle", Konkona didn't really deliver the hits. But her solid performing powers put her among the formidable actresses.
The top directors:
Shimit Amin: He made hockey sexy. Shah Rukh Khan in his most sober role to date was putty in Amin's hands. The guy has taken a long sabbatical after the triumph of "Chak De! India". Of course, he returns to a Yash Raj Film.
Imtiaz Ali: And so what if "Jab We Met" came when the lead pair parted? Shahid Kapur and Kareena Kapoor never seemed to share stronger chemistry in any of the films that they did together as a real-life pair. Ali, who earlier directed Abhay Deol's debut film "Socha Na Tha", is flooded with offers. He has agreed to direct a film for producer Saif Ali Khan.
Priyadarshan: Only director of 2007 with two hits, a minor "Dhol" and a major "Bhool Bhulaiyya", Priya sure has come a long way.
Top music directors:
Monty Singh: The scintillating score of "Saawariya" has single-handedly revived the era of pure melodies.
Pritam Chakraborty: The composer delivered modern songs in "Life... In A Metro", "Bhool Bhulaiyaa" and "Jab We Met".
Vishal-Shekhar: "Sajna ji vari-vari" in "Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd" at the beginning of 2007 and "Dard-e-disco" in "Om Shanti Om" at year-end rocked the charts.

Salman Khan celebrated his birthday in Panvel Farmhouse
The star celebrated his 42nd birthday on Thursday in a style all his own. He celebrated his birthday with his close friends and family members at his Panvel farmhouse. "December is very special for the Khandaan as Salman, Sohail and Alvira’s birthdays are in this month. They celebrated all three birthdays on Thursday," says a source.
Surprisingly, Sallu didn’t get any gifts from his friends. His close friend and producer Sajid Nadiadwala says, "He doesn’t accept any gifts on his birthday. On the contrary, he is the one who hands out gifts."
Salman Khan, is the right mix of glamour and star power and is famous for taking off his shirts in most of his films. His great physique and innocent looks has made him the dream hero of women fans than any other actor in Bollywood.
His debut was in 'Biwi To Aisi' as a supporting actor in 1988. The film 'Maine Pyar Kiya changed his career life forever. In a recently issued American magazine Salman was voted as the seventh best looking man in the world.
The dance floor attracted many guests with Salman taking centrestage. Katrina was a part of the party and was seen having a ball. Sajid-Wajid, Ranbir Kapoor, David Dhawan, Ravi Chopra, Boney Kapoor and his son Arjun were also invited.
"Salman is in a party mood and plans to host the New Year bash at Panvel too. He has invited all his friends but has said that no married women will be allowed at the party," adds the source. Now, we wonder, why Salman has put this restriction?

Sanjay Dutt moved out of Sanjay Gupta's production house
It's stale news that actor SANJAY DUTT moved out of Sanjay Gupta's production house White Feather Films, however the actor has now formed a production house of his own called Sanjay Dutt Productions.
Dutt had maintained that though he'll continue to be a part of Gupta's films, it'll be only in the capacity of an actor. It can be remembered that Sanjay Dutt was part of Alibaug and during the shoot of the film was put behind bars.
Sanju was then granted bail. And for some reason in trying to justify Gupta's approaching Pradhan, Vishwajeet has been made the villain of the non-issue. When we called him up to ask him what actually happened, this is what he had to say
"After Sanjay Dutt got arrested, I got a call from Hansal Mehta. He told me he needs to meet me for some urgent work. I was excited because I thought it was some role he was going to offer me.
Instead he requested me to meet Sanjay Gupta who wanted that I play Dutt's double in the film. I've never said that I was approached to replace Sanju, who is a great friend of mine and has also helped me immensely in my career.
"I declined the offer to be Sanjay's body double. My system wouldn't allow me to do that. Once Sanjay Dutt was out on bail. He is using his power and money to clean his face, and save his friendship with Dutt.
"And in this effort of Gupta trying to regain his position, I'm being used as the duster. He's making it look like it was me who gave misleading quotes. I've never said that I was replacing Dutt.
He took that in writing from me, and has had it published in all trade magazines. What is the use of all that? I've enjoyed an untarnished image till now, directors.
I've worked with before are keen to work with me again, and it's so unfair to put me unjustifiably so in bad light just to regain a lost position. And that's exactly what Gupta is doing to get into Dutt's good books all over again."

Nagesh Kuknoor set to release his first mainstream commercial film B2B.
NAGESH KUKNOOR is all set to release his first mainstream commercial film Bombay To Bangkok (B2B) . The filmmaker who has a different vision for cinema has made outstanding films in Bollywood, but insists that they cannot be called 'non-commercial'.
SIX YEARS after "Dil Par Mat Le Hath Mein Le", became an anthem of alternative cinema, Nagesh Kukunoor is back with the sequel of Hyderabad Blues, promising more fun, a bigger budget, music and of course coffee.
"Coffee and tea keep me going. I can guzzle gallons," says Nagesh, sipping his favourite at Food Court, Lajpat Nagar in the heart of Delhi. "My day starts with black filter coffee.
Post breakfast, jasmine or green tea is a must, and I finish the day with a mug of black tea. And in between it can make an entry."
"I have dabbled in different genres," says Nagesh, "And Bombay To Bangkok is yet another different one. You can call it a typical masala film as this film is made with one lip sync song. It's a great genre to explore."
Thailand that inspired him for this one. "I've always liked Thailand as a place. I like to explore culture, so it was a great opportunity to take an Indian guy and a Thai girl. I used my movie as an excuse to understand the different cultures."
He continues, "It's important that I enjoy what I am making. So I've never concerned myself with how I am slotted because I work very hard and choose not to make typical kind of films."
B2B talks about a cook who steals money from the local town Bombay and then goes to Bangkok. There he meets to a massage parlor girl and then there's confusion. It was apparently Nagesh's favorite city,
Nagesh enjoyed shooting in Thailand. Speaking about the experience, he says, "I enjoyed so much that I am planning to shoot in Thailand for my next film as well. They don't understand English, so it was very difficult to communicate in the first week, but we got the hang of it and became aces at broken English. We got a very good local director, so that helped as well."

Shahid Kapoor signed Yash Raj Films Next Production.
The latest is that Yash Raj Films, has recently signed Shahid for their next production. The film will be directed by Anurag Singh, a close associate of Aditya Chopra. The project will roll from March 2008.
SHAHID KAPOOR born February 25, 1981 in Mumbai, India is a Bollywood actor and model. Shahid was born to actor Pankaj Kapoor (Karamchand) fame and actress/classical dancer Neelima Azeem.
His parents divorced when he was three and he usually lived with his mother. His step-mother is Supriya Pathak. Shahid Kapoor has a little brother and sister called Ruhan and Sanaa. He's also the step brother of Ishaan Kapoor who he starred with in the film "Vaah! Life Ho To Aisi".
This film will be a love story. A source tells us, “Shahid loved the script and gave the nod to YRF. He is meeting many filmmakers after Jab We Met. He is signing films after much deliberation. He wants to choose the right scripts. Filmmakers are queuing up to sign him these days.”
Mumbai, Nov 17 (IANS) Rajkumar Santoshi has dropped the idea of making an intense love story with Shahid Kapoor and Katrina Kaif because he finds too many similarities between his script and the recently released Jab We Met.
"We were all set to start the film. But then we saw some striking similarities between what we had in mind and 'Jab We Met'. Doing two similar films with the same actor in the lead didn't make any sense," Santoshi told IANS.
Here, Shahid seems to have broken his one-film-at-a-time rule as this is not the only film he’s doing. He is also gearing up for Ken Ghosh's film, where he sports long hair. After that, he will start shooting for his father's (Pankaj Kapoor) directorial venture. Our source adds, “Importantly, Shahid is not ruing the fact that he split with Kareena. Life has never been as good to Shahid as now.”

Juhi (Chawla) and Shah Rukh are like my own children:Aziz mirza
“Not at all. Juhi (Chawla) and Shah Rukh are like my own children. How can I move away from them? The only reason why Shah Rukh is not in my new film is because this role required a young boy, just out of college.”
IN Aziz Mirza’s next film Shahid is in the lead.
Aziz Mirza said that “My new film, for which we’ve found no suitable title as yet, is set in a foreign city. I made a conscious decision to move out of Mumbai this time,”
There have been rumors all around tinsel town about how Aziz and his protege Shah Rukh have drifted and separated apart.

I never knew how such marginalized women existed until I played one. Deepa Mehta and Heaven On Earth have proved eye-openers for me. But the film was tough on me emotionally. Mukesh Bhatt is unhappy with Director Raju Khan.
Vishesh Films forthcoming film will mark the debut of newcomer Tushar Jalota as an actor and also the renowned choreographer Raju Khan as a director. However things didn't go too well between director Raju Khan and producer Mukesh Bhatt.
Much before he became the hot-shot producer he is today, Mukesh Bhatt, younger brother of Mahesh Bhatt, worked as a secretary to the late Smita Patil. After Smita’s demise in 1985He told his elder brother his secret desire of starting a production company. Mahesh was encouraging. That’s how Mukesh launched ‘Vishesh Films’ in 1986. The filmmaker looks back on the progress of his banner with pride.
Every one from the producers to the actors and music composers Lalit Sen was present for the promotion of their forthcoming film except director Raju Khan.It is believed that Mukesh Bhatt wasn't too happy with Mahesh Bhatt's choice of director.
He reveals, "Yes I was quite apprehensive about Raju Khan directing this film. But I decided to go with my brother's instincts. Sometimes people make mistakes by choosing wrong people.
It is believed that Raju Khan did not complete the film and left it mid-way and that's when Bhatt's favorite Mohit Suri and his assistant Vishal Bhatt came to the rescue. When asked, Mahesh Bhatt confirms "Yes the film was completed by Mohit and Vishal Bhatt as Raju didn't complete the film. There were differences between Mukesh and Raju on account of budget issue.
But producer Mukesh Bhatt has no such intentions. He says "Forget the budget issue; .We are two strong people with different opinions but only Friday will decide the fate of our movie. Raju is an unprofessional man. He stalled my film. He delayed it."
When asked if he will work with Raju Khan again after Showbiz, he replied, "I'll never work with Raju Khan. I'll not recommend him to any one. He is not a good person. He doesn't know his job. He is a choreographer, not a director."

Rakhi Sawant glory is in talk these days.
After her infamous ouster from Nach Baliye at the hands of Sanjeeda and Aamir,
Rakhi Sawant and beau Abhishek walked out of the show’s grand finale without paying heed to even Salman Khan’s request to come back!
If ample tears, prayer chanting and panting on screen were not enough, Rakhi and Abhishek even went to the extent of filing a complaint in a local police station against the show and channel, accusing them to be cheating the audiences, due to their alleged fake voting pattern.
We spoke to Keertan Adyanthaya, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Star Plus to know the truth and the man was certainly not amused by Rakhi’s accusations.
“This is just a publicity stunt. This jodi is using the media for their own nefarious purposes. They are making allegations against Star Plus without any basis or a shred of evidence. It’s a ploy for them to remain in the news. They have still not contacted the channel or the producers directly with any issues they have, but are using the media. These are all just hollow allegations.
Public demand or otherwise, top in the list of eliminated contestants is Rakhi Sawant, who seems to be getting all the glory and support from both the public (who seem to be a section of the participant’s near and dear ones) as well as the residents of Big Boss’s house
They are nothing but poor losers, I feel sorry for them that they have to resort to such public pleading to remain the news. It’s a case of “grapes are sour”. As far as we are concerned, the show ended on Saturday night, but it looks like the show and its associated glitz & glamour are hard to leave behind for some people.”
Adyanthaya concludes sasying, “We expect an unconditional public apology from Mr Awasthi & Ms Sawant.”

Dharmendra as Preity Zinta's Father in his latest film Har Pal
We don't know whether it's true, false or just hearsay. But the buzz is that Amitabh was first approached to play Preity Zinta's father in Jahnu Barua's Har Pal . Not because Big B had a special liking for nine time National award winning filmmaker Jahnu Barua, but because of his old friendship with the producer of the film Tito Tony.
We don't know what happened, but the role finally went to DHARMENDRA. We heard that after Amitabh backed out at the last minute, Preity Zinta suggested Dharmendra's name to the producer and they were happy to find a replacement so fast.
Dharmji was born as on December 8, 1935 in Phagwara, Punjab. His original name is Dharam Singh Deol. He is famous by his nickname as Dharam and Dharminder.
During his childhood, he used to do hosiery work in Ludhiana city. He had married twice. First, he married Prakash and then Hema Malini. He has recently entered into politics.
He became the Member of Parliament in the 2004 general elections from Bikaner, Rajasthan. His zodiac sign is Sagittarius. His height is around 5' 8
"I'm not aware of Amitabh. I knew the producer Tito and when he told me about this film being made by Jahnu Barua, I was more than happy to do it.
Let's wait for the film to release to know whether it was Amitabh's loss or Dharmendra's gain or vice versa!

Koena Mitra and Tanushree Dutta become best friends
There was a time when most of the Bengali women Riya Sen, Koena Mitra, Tanushree Dutta were at loggerheads.
TANUSHREE DUTTA is the new bongshell on the block-ever since she sizzled is her debut film chocolate -she has been labelled as one of the new sex symbols. most of her films have not been doing too well- here's hoping better luck with her upcoming ventures-for she sure is an eye sore.
And just couldn’t stand each other. But now, Koena and Tanushree seem to have become best friends. Actually they maintain that they never really knew each other too well.
But are glad that they’ve found friendship now, so much so that they claim to have imbibed each others bad habits. And just what kind of bad habits are these we wonder? "Splurging money, for example, is just one of the many," says Koena.

Rafi Sahab was an evergreen singer
Rafi Sahab, who was ever green singer in Bollywood, died 27 years ago. But his legacy of thousands of songs, including ghazals, qawwalis, bhajans, rendered during four decades of his singing career lives on, virtually unchallenged and un-imitated.
Bollywood's music trends may have changed drastically of late, but Rafi is still considered a reference point when it comes to judging good singing and dedication to music.
Only a few among the late singer's contemporaries continue to remain active in the industry today. One of them is eminent music director Khayyam, who himself will be 81 years old next February.
Khayyam's association with Rafi dates back to 1950 when as an upcoming music director he had a chance to score music for the film "Bibi".
The success of the film's music cemented the bond between Rafi and Khayyam. Though they worked together in only a few films, the friendship lasted till the inimitable crooner died of cardiac arrest in 1980.
The national-award winning music director of films like "Umrao Jaan", "Razia Sultan", "Trishul", "Kabhi Kabhi", "Noorie", "Bazaar", "Sawaal" and many others, Khayyam recalled that, in the '50s, when Rafi's singing career was already ascending with people taken in by his mellifluous voice and unique singing style, the singer once called on him and made an unusual request.
"He said that he had a desire to sing some bhajans - Hindu devotional songs," Khayyam said.
"In fact, Rafi himself gave me some bhajan tunes and asked me to compose music taking those tunes as a base. That album containing these memorable bhajans was one of Rafi's earliest non-film albums," said Khayyam.
"In each film, if the music director permitted, he attempted to introduce some novelty to his rendition and modify his style suitably. He always kept himself abreast with the times," he said.

Shahrukh Khan is the biggest ever celebrity endorsing Nokia mobiles
Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan, who has been roped in as the brand ambassador of Nokia, a mobile phone manufacturer, maintained at the sets of the shooting of the advertisement that the presence of big names does not mean big sales.
Khan went on record to say that celebrity endorsement might not ensure an increase in the sale of a product.
"It is a matter of pride also when international companies use Indians from among us as brand (ambassadors). But to be honest, I can say that celebrities cannot ensure a rise in the sales figures," said Khan.
Khan vehemently denies the accusation.
"I went to meet the Indian cricket team. Now, they have a problem with me being there on the cricket ground. I meet them personally. There was a function for them in Lucknow, so I took my son with me. It was his birthday. Myself, Kareena, Keona and Diya performed," said Khan.
The advertisement which will go on air soon was shot by Pradeep Sarkar, who has earlier directed films such as 'Parineeta' and 'Laaga Chunari Me Daag'.
Shahrukh Khan is the biggest ever celebrity endorsing Nokia mobiles. The company plans to launch the television commercial first which would be followed by the print advertisements.
